2019 Science Research & AISEP Applications Now Open!

2019 Summer Science Research and AISEP applications are now open! The Science Research Program helps students develop skills in bibliographic research, research methodology, mathematical and computational tools, and effective communication of research results. Students participate in group classes, web-based collaboration, individual meetings, and receive research assistance while conducting research at Ardent Academy or with a student-selected mentor at a university, medical center or research institute. Students who are able to complete a project will have the opportunity to enter local, state and/or national science competitions.

Ardent Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship Program (AISEP) for rising students in grades 7-11 is designed to guide innovators, engineers, and entrepreneurs, AISEP teaches the steps of identifying a problem, creating an app to solve the problem, and building a company to launch the app.

Students must complete an application and be approved before registering.

What is Ardent Summer Science Research Program?

Ardent Summer Science Research Institute gives intellectually motivated students in grades 6-12 an opportunity to develop their science research projects under the guidance of Dr. James Li. The program helps students develop skills in bibliographic research, research methodology, mathematical and computational tools, and effective communication of research results. Students participate in group classes, web-based collaboration, individual meetings, and receive research assistance while conducting research at Ardent Academy or with a student-selected mentor at a university, medical center or research institute.

What will students be doing?

During the summer, students will enhance their scientific research skills and successfully produce a science fair research project after a minimum of 160 hours of devotion—they will review literatures, refine their research project and hypothesis, learn data analysis methods and software tools, conduct the research, develop a presentation board, and participate in a final project showcase. Students may work on projects in physics, mathematics, alternative energy, bioinformatics, mathematical biology, behavioral science, electronics, and computer science.

What will students gain?

Students who are able to complete a project will have the opportunity to enter local, state and/or national science competitions. The goal of this program is to initiate a positive effect to build student interest in careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

What is Ardent Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship Program (AISEP)?

Designed to guide innovators, engineers, and entrepreneurs, Ardent Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship Program (AISEP) teaches students the steps of identifying a program, creating an app to solve the problem, and building a company to launch the app. Students join a team and build their startups with the help of advisors and mentors in both business strategies and coding. This program offers an unique experience for students to participate in app design and entrepreneurship competitions and build portfolios for college applications.

AISEP is geared towards students entering 7th to 11th grade in Fall 2019 who exhibit interest in technology, computer science, and business.

How are participants in the program chosen?

Students must complete an application and be approved before registering. Selection to Ardent Summer Science Research Institute and AISEP is considered by an application and in-person interview. Once your application is received, our office will contact you to schedule an interview. Early submissions receive priority for interviews. The application deadline is May 31, 2019.

Testimonials

“Dear Dr. Li, I cannot thank you enough for pushing me through with science research. Without your initial introduction to the Arduino in the beginning of 8th grade, I never would have considered that pathway... Research has opened up so many opportunities, including an outlet to meet so many amazing people, and to gain valuable communication skills. I have always looked up to and admired the ISEF finalists, and it is truly humbling to call myself one today. I am so excited to represent Orange County at Pittsburgh!” – Patrick Liu, Intel ISEF 2018 Finalist

"Dr. Li's guidance helped me find a research lab to work at... a priceless experience for me and has motivated me to pursue my passions in science beyond the Science Fair. Without Dr. Li's encouragement to work at a research lab, I wouldn't have the amazing and life changing experiences that make me who I am today. Furthermore, Dr. Li taught me the importance of consistency and passion by encouraging me to follow a topic of research that I am interested in. I am so excited to go to Intel ISEF and want thank Dr. Li and Ardent Academy for making it all possible!” – Sasha Ronaghi, Intel ISEF 2018 Finalist
