Python 3: Algorithms

Algorithmic thinking in Python—arrays, complete search, and matrices, built toward full contest problems.

Course overview

  • Homework: 60 minutes a week
  • Prerequisite: Python 2, or placement

What you’ll learn

What you will learn

  • Loops and functions sharpened on number theory: primes, twin primes, perfect numbers
  • One-dimensional arrays: enumeration, summation, searching, counting
  • Double loops and complete search — the workhorse techniques of contest programming
  • Two-dimensional arrays: magic squares, building them and verifying them, plus vectors and matrices
  • Computation techniques for grids: iteration patterns, matrix operations, greatest common divisor
  • Full competitive-programming problems, from first iteration exercises to algorithm-level challenges
